These words, for fans of “The Brady Bunch,” were uttered by teen fave Greg Brady and usually preceded by “Hey there, groovy chick.”
While teen lingo has certainly metamorphosed into something completely different these days, the good ole decades of the ’60s and ’70s just don’t ever seem to go away. Tie-dyed shirts, Woodstock, peace signs, mini and maxi skirts, and teased hair seem to keep coming back every few years. Thankfully, leisure suits and gold chains have yet to make a return to the fashion world.
Recognizing the popularity of the groovy days in pop culture, Valdosta is just as hip as the rest of the country in revisiting and reinventing older styles and making them new again. The October issue of the Valdosta Scene magazine is one far-out feature after another highlighting fashion, accessories, makeup and hair tips for those who want to be groovy this fall.
You’ll also find photos of people who are hitting the scene all around town, along with other great articles and stories.

What to do, what to do
As if October isn’t a busy enough month for most, try checking out the Business After Hours on Thursday, Oct. 8, at Valwood School. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. and the school is known for its hospitality (and its great food!) so if you are a member of the Chamber of Commerce, be there or be square.
Friday night is of course the big Winnersville matchup between Lowndes and Valdosta, and Saturday afternoon is Valdosta State’s big Homecoming game, so this should be a big football week in South Georgia!!!
Business Roundup
The big news in Nashville this week is the winner of the Business Plan Competition. The Berrien County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Citizens Bank and Farmers & Merchants Bank, announced that Taylor Feed and Garden won the competition. The company will receive $5,000 in startup capital and complimentary services from several businesses to assist them in their business.
Buffalo Wild Wings by the Valdosta Mall has about another week or two before they open to the public. The commercials are already airing in town for those not familiar with the concept.
There’s a groundbreaking this week for a new retail center at North Ashley Professional Plaza where the Quiznos is going to go.
The new Shuffle Consignment Boutique is open at the corner of Baytree and West Gordon Street.
If you’ve been downtown lately, you’ll see that the former home of Southern Stationary is receiving a complete makeover and will soon be a retail center with stores and maybe a restaurant too.
The new Chick-Fil-A on Inner Perimeter is coming along with the site preparation and so is the soon to be Southwest Bank at the corner of Country Club and North Valdosta Road. So far, they’ve left a lot of trees on the lot so hopefully they’ll stay there.
And no word on our mystery couple and their proposal caught on video in Downtown Valdosta. Maybe it didn’t have the happy ending that it appeared to be.
