HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —
Valdosta State’s men’s tennis team never trailed on Saturday, and defeated Alabama-Huntsville 6-3 in a Gulf South Conference match at the UAH Tennis Courts.
Konstantin Kutschenko and Mario Navarro defeated Fredrik Graaner and Nestor Perez 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to open the scoring. UAH’s Christopher Kano and Guillermo Reyes defeated VSU’s Joachim Schemm and Andrew Harvin by the same score at No. 3 doubles to even the score. Taamo Haake and Sebastian Jasyk put VSU back in front with an 8-6 victory over Jose Soto and Raphael Oliveira at No. 2 doubles.
The 11th-ranked Kutschenko opened singles scoring with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Soto at No. 1. Schemm topped Graaner 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Navarro sealed the Blazers’ victory with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Perez at No. 3. Oliviera defeated Harvin 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6. Kano scored the final Charger point with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Jasyk at No. 5. Haake downed Reyes 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5.
Valdosta State’s women’s team swept the singles matches, and defeated Alabama-Huntsville 8-1 on Saturday.
Valdosta State jumped out to the early lead, winning two of the three doubles points. Michelle Fischer and Alina Nagel opened the scoring with an 8-0 win over Lina Caravajal and Maria Lawton at No. 1 doubles. Alejandra Pacheco and Kasi McDonald evened the match with an 8-4 win over Jennifer Rink and Jessica Tuggle at No. 3, but Laura Ubeda and Julianna Boehm topped Katie Bryant and Jessica Groupierre 8-6 at No. 2 to give VSU a 2-1 lead.
Fischer extended the Lady Blazer lead to two with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Groupierre at No. 1 singles, then Nagel topped Caravajal 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Rink sealed the win with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Lawton at No. 3. Ubeda topped Pacheco 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Tuggle topped McDonald 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Boehm ended the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Bryant at No. 5.
Valdosta State returns to action today at 10:00 a.m., when it visits North Alabama.

Blazers lose to Delta State, fall to loser’s bracket
If the Valdosta State baseball team is going to win the South Region Tournament, the Blazers going to have to do it from the loser’s bracket.
The Blazers (33-17) dropped their first game of the tournament Thursday, falling to Delta State 4-2 at UT Baseball Stadium.
VSU will face Stillman College, which lost to No. 1 seed and tournament host Tampa Thursday, Friday at 11 a.m. to advance to the weekend portion of the tournament. The loser will be eliminated. -

VSU wins 7th GSC Men’s All-Sports Trophy
Look out Title Town, another trophy is coming to town.
Valdosta State’s athletic department was awarded a seventh Gulf South Conference Men’s All-Sports Trophy Tuesday, sharing the honor with West Florida.
The tie between VSU and West Florida marked the first time in the GSC’s 42-year history that a pair of schools shared the honor. Both schools finished the athletic season with 29.5 points, based on the conference’s point system that gauges athletic success. - More Blazers Blog Headlines
