VALDOSTA —
The Valdosta State baseball team will be hosting the 2012 Winter Warm-Up Baseball Camps this week at Billy Grant Field in Valdosta.
VSU coaches Greg and Todd Guilliams will offer a two-day hitting camp and a one-day pitcher camp.
The hitting camp will be held today and Friday. Players ages 7-9 will attend the camp from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., while players ages 10-12 will attend from 1:30-4 p.m.
The cost of the hitting camp is $50. Campers will learn the timeless techniques of the modern-day hitter, from the correct drip and set-up to the proper bat path and explosive lower half mechanics. Campers will also learn various skills where they can teach themselves how to become better hitters.
The pitcher and catcher camp has been moved to Sunday. The cost is $40. The camp is open to campers between grades 3-8, and will last from 1-4 p.m.
Campers at the pitcher and catcher camp will throw supervised bullpen sessions and learn proper mechanics and arm care. Catchers will receive individual instruction on the “big three” — catching, receiving and blocking.
Registration for the camps is still open. Any player who has not signed up for the camp yet may do so 30-45 minutes before their camp begins.
Interested campers must completely fill out a medical form and liability waiver upon registration. Registration forms are available by visiting www.vstateblazers.com or by visiting the team offices at Billy Grant Field off of North Patterson Street.
Checks for the camp can be made payable to the VSU Foundation. Credit card payments can be made at camp check-in on the day of the event.
