VALDOSTA —
Nick Fogarty struck out 12 Lynn batters to lead Valdosta State to a 3-0 victory over Lynn in non-conference baseball action in the second day of play of the Comfort Suites Classic Saturday afternoon at Billy Grant Field.
With the win, Valdosta State improved to 1-1 while Lynn fell to 1-1.
Fogarty allowed just two hits and walked three in six innings of play.
He did not allow a base runner past second base in and allowed more than one base runner only once, in the fourth inning when he hit the lead-off batter who was erased in a double play that followed, before allowing a single and a walk before recording his seventh strikeout to get out of the inning.
Valdosta State got on the board in the bottom of the third inning as it used three hits to score a pair of runs.
Dan Hoover singled with one out in the frame before moving to second on a two-out stolen base. Ryan McClellan followed with a single to center that scored Hoover and came around from first to score as well when Bryant Hayman followed with a double to left.
The Blazers' final run came in the eighth inning as Hayman was hit by a pitch before being lifted for pinch runner Will Wilson. Wilson stole second and scored when Michael Gouge hit a one-out triple to right.
Lynn's best chance of scoring came in the ninth inning as Jason Matsuki drew a one-out walk before being lifted for a pinch runner, who advanced to third base before being stranded when Benjamin Weil got Enrique Perez to ground out to earn the save.
Hoover, McClellan and Gouge each had two hits to for the Blazers while Jake Montgomery and Hayman had one each.
Valdosta State returns to action today at 3 p.m. when it plays North Georgia in the final game of the Comfort Suites Classic.
