Gred Reid declares for NFL Draft, won't return to VSU

VALDOSTA — Greg Reid is headed to the National Football League.

Reid, the former two-time Region 1-AAAAA Player of the Year with the Lowndes Vikings, declared for the upcoming April NFL Draft over Twitter, tweeting an Instagram photo that read, “Went ahead and told my brother n Momma we finally rich…ion care hate if you want me & you ain’t the same.”

Reid’s information on his personal Twitter account reads, “Former FSU Punter Returner/Cornerback - Heading to the NFL.”

After graduating from Lowndes, Reid signed a Division I athletic scholarship with Florida State where he electrified the Seminoles with his punt return capabilities by returning a punt for a touchdown in his first collegiate game. He led the nation in punt return average as a freshman in 2009.

Despite on-the-field success, which included being a staring cornerback, Reid’s Florida State legacy was filled with off-the-field distractions, which included a pair of arrests.

In Sept. 2011, Reid was arrested in Tallahassee for lying to police in relation to the whereabouts of his motorized scooter. Those charges were later dropped.

In July, Reid was arrested in Lowndes County and charged with driving on a suspended license and for possession of marijuana. He was dismissed from Florida State’s football team weeks later by head coach Jimbo Fisher. Soon after, he enrolled at Valdosta State, where he never played a down.

Just 13 days after his first practice with the eventual Division II national champions, Reid tore his ACL returning a punt during a full-team scrimmage. In September, Reid told The Times he was leaning towards a departure for the National Football League, but was still uncertain.

A projected late second or early third round draft pick in 2011, Reid opted to return to Florida State to possibly improve his stock to a first-round pick. Instead, he was dismissed from the team and eventually missed an entire season of football.

Reid finished his Florida State career 312 yards away from breaking Deion Sanders’ punt return record at Florida State.
