VALDOSTA —
Valdosta State senior forward James Anacreon was named the Gulf South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Anacreon earned the honor after leading Valdosta State to a 1-1 league mark last week. The Hollis, N.Y. native averaged 24.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the two games, while shooting 69.2 percent from the floor.
Anacreon opened the week by scoring a game-high 22 points and adding seven rebounds in 28 minutes in a 72-64 loss to West Georgia. Then in VSU’s 91-88 overtime win at West Alabama, Anacreon finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds, despite scoring just two points and having four rebounds at the half. His basket with one second remaining in regulation forced the overtime period, where he scored four of the first six points to give VSU a lead it would not relinquish.
Anacreon is averaging 16.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Blazers this season.
