Sparks named Player of the Week

VALDOSTA — On the heels of his first career triple-double. Valdosta State men's basketball player Josh Sparks was named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, his second honor in three weeks.

The senior led the Blazers to their second win over in-state, in-region foe Fort Valley State. Sparks scored a game-high 23 points, recording 15 rebounds and 10 blocks in the Blazers' 82-66 win.

Sparks' 10 blocks this season was the most by a player in the league this year and the fourth best all-time single-game number. Sparks is now 7th in the country in blocks per game with 2.88.

Valdosta State hosts Coastal Georgia (2-9) tonight at the P.E. Complex. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
