VALDOSTA —
Lindsi Jones is making a name for herself when it comes to photography and her photography company, Lindsi Jones Photography.
The Valdosta State University alum, who graduated in 2008 with her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts Education, started her photography company in 2006 while still attending school.
“I did not go to school for photography,” Jones said. “I did take several photography courses, in addition to painting, sculpture and various other artistic media while completing my degree. I spent any spare second I had during college shooting, reading and learning more about photography on my own.”
According to Jones, she always had a strong interest in photography.
“In high school, I was always the friend that brought a camera along,” she said. “I started pursuing photography as a serious hobby while in college.”
Q: Has the status of the economy made it harder for you to find work as a photographer?
A: No. The majority of my business is wedding photography, and even with a slower economy people still get married. The big change I have noticed is that clients seem to be spending less time shopping for a photographer and not booking as far in advance as in the past years. I have actually seen an increase in business over the past two years.
Q: What is your favorite thing to photograph and why?
A: I love to photograph couples. It is a great deal of fun for me to get to know a couple while shooting their engagement session. I learn all about them, the story of how they met each other, what their interests are, their future plans. A few months later, I get to work with them again, meeting their families and friends, documenting one of the biggest days in their life as a couple. It is all very romantic. I love knowing that because of me and the images that I capture that this time in their lives can be viewed and relived by friends and family for generations.
Q: What has been one of your favorite memories when it comes to photography?
A: In 2009, I shot several destination weddings. I traveled to Mexico, Las Vegas and New York City to shoot weddings. It was incredible to be in such amazing places doing what I love.
Q: How has business been for you so far? What have you been shooting more of, weddings, portraits, etc.?
A: Business is great! I love shooting portraits and events, but the majority of my business is wedding photography.
Q: Do you ever get tired of lugging the heavy camera equipment around?
A: Lugging my gear is part of the job. A sore shoulder is part of the feeling of accomplishment after a long day of shooting.

Business Wish List Results
The results are in from my very un-scientific poll on the businesses that people want to see come to Valdosta. After my comment last week that there seemed to be more requests for retail than restaurants, I was bombarded this week with restaurant suggestions, so I’m guessing even with an OG, readers aren’t quite satisfied yet.

The Brass Quill Gallery
VALDOSTA — The only way to describe The Brass Quill Gallery to someone who hasn’t witnessed the majesty of its interior is this: If Alice in Wonderland could be interpreted into a modern-day building decorated by the Mad Hatter — that’s The Brass Quill Gallery. It is arguably the most creative decorating scheme in Valdosta. It is because of the business’ unique style, that The Brass Quill Gallery is a metaphorical nest of creativity for those wanting to get inked. -

BlackBerry’s Future?
BlackBerry used to be the “it” phone. Notice I said used to be. Just as video killed the radio star, iPhone killed the BlackBerry.
Blackberry has become the new “flip phone.” It’s ancient. It’s out of date and it can’t compete in the iPhone revolution of the smart(er) phone. -

Downtown Hahira
HAHIRA — The Voice from “Field of Dreams” once famously intoned, “If you build it, they will come.” Stacey Dershimer hasn’t been Hahira’s downtown developmental coordinator for long — one month — but she’s been here long enough to know, if you build upon what you have, more people and more businesses will come.
