Belk hosts charity event

VALDOSTA — Belk customers will receive a merchandise discount in return for a $5 donation to their favorite participating local charity or non-profit organization during the Belk Charity Days event on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, in all Belk locations.

Participating non-profit community groups will be selling $5 tickets in advance of the shopping event. Tickets will be sold in Belk stores beginning on Friday, March 23, through Saturday, March 31. Representatives of the participating groups will also sell tickets in the stores March 30-31.

Ticket purchasers will receive a two-day shopping pass giving them a 20-percent discount on regular and sale items in most areas of the store except the home department, where a 15 percent discount will apply. Limited exclusions will apply as well. In addition, ticket holders will receive an “Early Bird” offer entitling them to receive $5 off any purchase of $5 or more on Saturday, March 31, from 8-11 a.m., with no exclusions.

Each participating charitable/non-profit organization will receive the entire $5 for each ticket sold in advance of the event. Donations collected in the store during the event will be divided and distributed equally among the participating groups at no cost to them. All charities and non-profits signing up for the event will also be entered into a drawing for one of four $1,000 donations that will be awarded by Belk.

Belk shoppers can also register to win one of four $1,000 Belk shopping sprees during the two-day event, Friday and Saturday, March 30-31.

“Belk has a long-standing tradition of community involvement and supporting deserving charitable and non-profit organizations in the markets they serve,” said Emily James, Belk Inc. special events coordinator.

“We believe in being an active and caring corporate citizen in our home towns and in-giving back to the communities that make our success possible. At Belk, sharing never goes out of style.”

The Charity Days discount offer will exclude a limited number of areas and brands, including: Excludes Juicy Couture, Lilly Pulitzer, 7 For All Mankind, St. John, Couach, Ferragamo, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman, Donald Pliner, Lacoste, men’s Tommy Bahama, and Crocs shoes, cosmetics and fragrances, maternity, Red Dot, Bonus Buys, Doorbusters, Earlybirds, Night Owls, Chairman’s Choice, non-merchandise departments, lease departments and Belk gift cards. VALDOSTA — Though Valdosta Shared Office Space is not new to Valdosta, it is newly green. The first and only shared office space in Valdosta owned by Gino Fina, just became the first Downtown Valdosta business to work with the Georgia Cities Foundation’s Green Communities Fund to implement environmentally friendly, energy-efficient improvements, reducing energy consumption upwards of 50 percent.

A few years ago, when everyone started talking through social media, flash mobs became the new in thing to do. Primarily in the big cities, although VSU did their own a year or two ago, a designated place and time would be set and masses of people would descend on these sites, sometimes dancing, sometimes singing, sometimes acting obnoxiously.

VALDOSTA — The Valdosta Mall has made tremendous strides since its rebranding away from Colonial Mall in 2007 and it’s refocus in 2008 when it made a move from serving the community to being a part of the community.
“We had taken for granted our place in the community for a long time,” said Jerry Weller, general manager of the Valdosta Mall. “We don’t do that anymore.”

  • Business This Week: Happy Mother’s Day!

Today is the one day a year dedicated to celebrating mothers, although we all use their guidance and wisdom every day. But for this one day, their sacrifices, kindness, love, and advice are recognized, hopefully, by the children they raised or helped to raise. It might not even be those born to them, as most mothers don’t limit their love and it flows over onto their children’s friends, family members, and the children they influence in the classroom, in Sunday school and in volunteer activities.
