Back to School at Home

Kirkland’s ready to create a back-to-school room

VALDOSTA — It was Dr. Seuss who said that you can get help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room. When gathering tools to gear up for back to school, it is completely necessary not to neglect an often overlooked educational tool, the room.

When you’re a child, a room is a place to escape to quietly get homework done when your brother is giving you wet willies. As a college student, a dorm is an escape when your hall is having a social mixer and you have a midterm the next morning. So where does one start when attempting to build the ultimate oasis? Why Kirkland’s, of course.

Having opened July 17, Kirkland’s has several sections that are fully dedicated to decking out a room for back to school.

“The organizational furniture is huge in getting your kids ready for back to school,” said store manager Amber May.

There are storage ottomans that double as side tables or seating that is perfect for a small dorm room. There are also small tables and desks that are perfect for grade-school students. It gives them a place to do homework and some even open up and double as storage for school supplies.

“We have great organizational furniture and it’s actually on sale right now,” said May.

If you don’t quite have the budget for a storage ottoman or shelf, Kirkland’s carries a large variety of baskets which are a budget-friendly way to organize and put away school supplies.

“We have tons of baskets that are great for school supplies,” said May.

From the floor to the wall, Kirkland’s has various offerings. There are area rugs that are as low as $49 and they even have colorfully painted cork and memo boards that double as decoration. Not only are these pieces functional, but they easily and quite cheaply brighten a drab dorm space or a child’s room. And talking about brightening up a room, they have a large variety of lamps that come in various colors and prints.

“Lots of bright, fun decorating accessories,” said May.

From owls to sock monkeys, Kirkland’s has the latest trends in decorating.

“Every three months, we change our inventory, so we stay up to date on all the current trends,” said May. “We’re always changing out the decorative accessories.”

Kirkland’s not only takes into account the daytime hustle, but also hooks up your Z’s with great twin bedding that lets any college student sleep in style! Bright, neon-colored, tribal print is huge right now, and they have comforters with matching throw pillows, blankets, lamps and wall decor.

“We even have decorative laundry bags,” said May.

An owl-themed laundry hamper is perfect for college students who need to carry a month’s worth of dirty clothes conveniently and stylishly.

Speaking of dirty clothes, any parent knows how stinky a child’s room or dorm room can become. Kirkland’s knows this too, which is why the store offers candle-alternative room fragrances.

“We have sachet packets that will be on sale throughout the week, three for $5,” said May. “Those are really great for dorm rooms, cars, closets and even drawers.”

Kirkland’s even carries those special little touches that many self-decorators overlook. They have crystal ornaments, rubber ducky headphones, bedazzled watches, shabby chic picture frames and so much more.

Not only is Kirkland’s focused on providing the most current decorating accessories, but the store does so at affordable prices without compromising the quality of the product.

“We do focus on quality furniture at affordable prices,” said May. “We are very comparable with our competitors in value and price.”

Whether you’re getting your child’s room ready for the school-time frenzy, or sending your baby off to college, Kirkland’s has everything you need to make sure that you do it with style, without breaking the bank.

“It’s a lot more bang for your buck,” said May.

Kirkland’s is located on St. Augustine Road behind Steak N’ Shake. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
