VALDOSTA —
There are two events this week that will have your mouth watering with great cooking demonstrations and an awesome array of food from local restaurants to sample.
On Tuesday, the Taste of Home Cooking School brings you wonderful demonstrations of cooking tips, great food, recipes, and giveaways. It’s held at Mathis Auditorium and $10 tickets are available at the Times office.
This is a great way to learn tips from a professional as they prepare dishes on stage. Some lucky ticket holders will get to take the dishes home that night, plus lots of other door prizes will be given away.
Another wonderfully tasty event is the Taste of Valdosta, which will be held next Saturday at the Conference Center. The event is sponsored by the Quota Club each year and is one of their biggest fundraisers, with the proceeds benefiting a number of local organizations. If you are a fan of trying new foods, or if you’re not sure about trying a restaurant, try the Taste of Valdosta at lunch or dinner. You buy tokens that allow you to sample the items at the various restaurant booths, and you get to vote on your favorites.
Participating restaurants are The Flavor of New Orleans, Atlanta Bread Company, Barberitos, Baytree Pizza, Becky's Cakes, Beef O'Brady's, Firehouse Subs, Moe's Southwest Grill, PammyCakes, Rainwater Conference Center, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday, Shoney's, Smok'n Pig BBQ, SubMarina, SurEste and Georgia Pasty Co.
So if you’re interested in having a tasty week, you’ve got a lot of choices!
Business Roundup
Several new businesses opened in the last week. Shoe Carnival held its official grand opening this weekend even though they were actually open last weekend. It’s located by Best Buy off Norman Drive.
Also, the new Hibachi Grill on Baytree opened this week as did the new Hibachi Express on N. Ashley St. Not to be outdone, Creekside Tavern held its grand opening last week also for its new expanded patio and bar area.
South Georgia Pediatric and Allergy Center is expanding, with a large addition being built onto the side of its location on N. Valdosta Road.
The Passage 2 India restaurant on N. Ashley St. reopened this week with a lot of fanfare. They’ve partnered with a restaurant group in Atlanta and expanded the menu and the buffet items and times.
There is a new restaurant on the way to Moody on Bemiss called...
The new Southwest Bank on N. Valdosta Road is moving along again, after some rain delay issues.
And speaking of rain delays, the tennis courts at McKey Park are very behind the original schedule, which would have had them open by now already. It looks like it’s going to be June at the earliest now.
That’s unfortunately all there is for this week, but if there’s anything I’ve missed, please let me know!
