VALDOSTA —
As one who grew up fascinated by daredevil Evil Knievel and his various feats, including the infamous Snake River Canyon rocket car jump, seeing his son Robbie follow in his footsteps is a once in a lifetime opportunity in Valdosta.
This weekend, leading up to the many July 4th holiday events taking place all around the community, Robbie Knievel will jump the lake at Wild Adventures on Saturday, July 3. And not just that, the lake will be filled with luxury boats from Regal Marine, a local manufacturer.
Knievel’s jump will be thrilling, I’m sure, with lots of pageantry involved, but if you go, be prepared for crowds. Just relax and enjoy the evening and don’t be in a hurry to leave after the fabulous fireworks show.
On July 4th, you have a plethora of events to choose from, so don’t forget the fireworks sponsored by the Parks and Rec Authority near Exit 18. It’s free and you ca view it from just about any high vantage point near the mall area. Several area cities, such as Nashville, are also having fireworks displays Sunday, so you may be able to catch a few shows next weekend.
And of course, don’t forget the extravaganza at Wild Adventures with its spectacular fireworks display Sunday evening.
You have lots of events to choose from for the holiday and next Monday, being a holiday for most, will give you a chance to rest up from your weekend, so enjoy.
Business Roundup
While I appreciate the folks thanking me from time to time about various businesses opening, please remember I have no control over who comes and who doesn’t, other than peripherally by writing about it. I try to keep my ear to the ground and have wonderful readers who keep me updated, but unfortunately I really don’t have any say so. Although I wish I did.
As for businesses coming and going, it’s slow right now. Very very slow. I only have a few things that are happening, including that the former Beyond the Beach location next to Books a Million is closed and being renovated, and will reopen soon under a new name.
Also, although Cheddars said they’d be breaking ground soon on their new location on Norman Drive, I understand there are some delays so hopefully it won’t hold them up too much.
The McDonalds project on N. Valdosta Road next to the Foxborough entrance should be finalized soon, and if you haven’t been by Harveys location on Highway 122 in Hahira, they are really moving on it right now.
The McKey Park tennis center is slated to be finished by late July, pending any rain delays, and that’s pretty much it for this week. If there’s anything I missed, please let me know!
