If you like really cool cars, then you need to visit Hahira this weekend when the city hosts its first annual Cool Car Show. It’s an all day event, culminating in a parade Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.
The day begins with a Farmer’s Market at the Red Caboose on Main Street at 8 a.m., followed by a display starting at 10 a.m. of cars, trucks, tractors, bikes, etc. with prizes given in a lot of unique categories, including highest odometer reading and farthest traveler. That last one should be a cinch for any military member who’s taken their car overseas with them.
The winners will be announced at 4 p.m. at the caboose, and the winners get to ride in the front of the parade down Main Street.
Plus, there’ll be lots of live music and entertainment, including a Sock Hop at 6 p.m. after the parade in the City Hall parking lot. You can come dressed in your favorite 50s or 60s outfit, or your favorite ‘09 outfit, but however you dress, come prepared to dance!
Hahira has some pretty cool events, and the next one, which is right around the corner, is the Honey Bee Festival, which is always the first weekend in October.
Buzz on up to Hahira Saturday, enjoy a festive, fun filled day, journey back in time, and dance your bobby socks off.
Motorcycle Mania hits the Scene
Ridin’ around with the wind in your face, the open road stretching before you, on your favorite Hog — according to motorcycle enthusiasts, it doesn’t get much better than that.
The September issue of the Valdosta Scene takes a look at the popularity of riding, along with some rides and rallies coming up, and some folks who were very happy to share their enthusiasm with us.
The magazine also features some very interesting Grave Stories, a look at the Loft at City Market, and a heartwarming story on the rescue and rehabilitation of Sammie the dog, and of course, a whole lot more.

Business Roundup
Glamour Shots is no longer in the Valdosta Mall. The photography studio has moved out of the mall, across the street, and is now located on Gornto Road.
It sounds like the Shoe Carnival being built between Best Buy and Books-A-Million on Norman Drive may not open until after Christmas.
In addition to the new Youth and Pediatric After Hours Clinic that Smith Northview officially opened this week, they also opened an Elliano’s in their lobby as an extra convenience for their staff and visitors.
The storefront that has been under construction on the inside for quite some time is turning out to be Envy Island Tans. It’s next to Jimmy John’s restaurant in the new Remerton Square retail facility on Baytree.
As for the former Mulldoon’s restaurant on Gornto, the building is being resurrected from the flood waters and will be the Creekside Tavern. It’s getting a whole new look inside and out and will be a really cool place for those of us — who are somewhere between too young and too old — to go and eat great food, have a drink if you’d like, and dance to a variety of bands or see a show. I’ll keep you updated on construction, but it most likely will open around the end of October.
And I understand the grand opening for the new Lowndes County Judicial Complex has been pushed back to early or mid-October, and the new administrative side will be open in mid-spring next year.
Valdosta State University is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Georgia Hall on Sept. 15, the campus’ newest completed building. The student center is looking gorgeous and will hopefully be finished before the end of the year.
