Early voting underway in primary runoff

Lowndes County sees 84 ballots cast on first day

VALDOSTA — A total of 84 people cast ballots on Thursday, the first day of early voting in the 2010 General Primary/Special Election runoff. Of those, 72 were Republicans and 12 were Democrats.

The seven-day, early-voting period for the runoff is scheduled to continue today, with voters casting ballots from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Lowndes County Board of Elections, 2808 N. Oak St.

Any United States citizen who is at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of the state of Georgia not serving a sentence for a felony involving moral turpitude, who registered to vote by June 5, and who has not been judged mentally incompetent by the court is eligible to cast a ballot.

All eligible voters who cast ballots in the General Primary/Special Election will have to make their selections from the same party ticket in the runoff.

All those who did not vote on July 20 will be able to choose either ballot.
