VALDOSTA —
Fifty-seven Valdosta State University students will find their works included in the annual Student Art Competition, opening Monday night.
A sneak peek of some accepted works reveals a show that demonstrates the strengths of VSU art students as individuals as well as the VSU Art program as a whole.
Alan MacTaggart, a Georgia Regents University professor of art and humanities, judged the show.
VSU students presented MacTaggart with plenty of choices. Seventy-seven students entered 205 works. He selected 107 works by 57 students, with about a half being three-dimensional pieces.
From the juried works, winners will be announced during Monday evening’s reception, with prizes totaling $500.

Billings, Montana: Where the old West remains alive
Montana bills itself as “Big Sky Country,” a pretty accurate claim in our opinion. The self-described Treasure State is blessed with mountains and hills for recreation, prairies for farming and ranching, and lakes, rivers, and streams for boating, fishing and swimming. Stand in the middle of the state and it seems as if you can see a thousand miles in any direction.
