VALDOSTA —
Dr. Charlene Blache, who has had a practice in Valdosta for seven years, has moved her practice to a new location.
The new office, located at 406 M. Northside Drive, was opened towards the end of May and recently held its ribbon cutting.
In the waiting area are bright paintings on the wall along with a television to keep the children occupied while waiting to see the doctor.
Blache, who is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, also has an office in Quitman where she sees patients.
Joining the practice recently is board-certified pediatrician Dr. Cheryl Tolliver. She is a native Valdosta resident and has moved home from Albany where she has been practicing for several years.
Along with Tolliver is a new certified pediatric nurse practitioner; Beth Hammond has more than 14 years experience in pediatrics.
Kristie Brown, LPN, and Kim Hutto, a medical office assistant, also joined Blache and together they have worked with children for more than 11 years.
Q: What is it about this new location that is better than the old office?
A: “It’s a lot bigger. There is more room here and it’s in a better location. It’s a lot easier to get to for the patients.”
Q: What is your favorite part of pediatrics?
A: “Keeping the kids well. Doing those health checks, giving advice to keep them out of trouble and keep them well. Preventive health care. I love kids. I have one, who is a handful, and is 4.”
Q: How old are typical children that a pediatric doctor sees?
A: “We see anyone from newborns to teenagers in college. We love newborns and we love teenagers.”
Q: Do you have any other things that you are working on?
A: “I think we are going to be committed to helping the community prevent overweight kids. We have an epidemic now and now they are becoming adults who are overweight. We are committed to that struggle to help with that. I think both health practitioners are long-distance runners, I’m not, and the other practitioner is very fit and that’s encouraging and we would like to be involved in more community activities. Everybody needs to exercise more, more active and eat better. I think it’s hard for people who can’t afford it. It’s easy to buy sugary food. That remains a challenge, but I think if you educate the parents and the children, it’s a big part of changing that.”
