VALDOSTA — The first 100 percent disposable tattoo shop in the state of Georgia, and possibly in the whole country, has opened in Valdosta.
Award-winning artist Brent Morgan, moved his tattoo shop, Colors of Pain, from Adel to Valdosta a week ago.
“All kinds of people from the health department came to inspect,” Morgan said. “‘Disposable’ means nothing is reused, like tubes for example. Everything is plastic — one-time use only.”
Originally from Adel, Morgan became interested in tattoos at a very young age because his brother was doing it as a hobby. Morgan, however, started doing tattoos for living and had his shop in Adel for 10 years.
Prior to opening a shop, while still in high school, he won numerous art awards.
“I did the front cover of two yearbooks in high school and one in middle school,” he said.
He then decided to apply his artistic abilities to his passion for tattoos.
Morgan’s specialty is portraits.
“I’m an award-winning tattoo artist, too,” he said. “While my brother did it for fun, I do it for real.”
Morgan is the only artist at the shop for now. He has a receptionist, Wesley McGill, but said that he prefers to meet the customers and take care of them himself.
Walk-ins are welcomed, but custom work needs to be done by appointment, he said.
Q: Why did you decide to become 100 percent certified disposable tattoo shop?
A: The main reason is to reinsure that there is no cross-contamination. It's reinsurance for our customers; it’s for customer care. It costs more to do that, but our customers are worth the money.
Q: Are your prices higher as a result?
A: No. I kept the same prices. They are very reasonable. Tattoos start at $30, including after-care kits. All body piercing will be $20 each, including the jewelry and the after-care kit.
Q: Why did you move to Valdosta, and what happened to the old shop in Adel?
A: It’s a bigger community, and it’s a pretty good location. I closed the shop in Adel.
Q: Do you offer discounts?
A: Yes. For first-time customers we have 10 percent off, as well as for military and college people if they show a valid identification card.
