Quitman teen arrested in bloody robbery

QUITMAN — A search of a suspected teen gunman Tuesday morning led to the discovery of blood-soaked money, a bloody Smith and Wesson cartridge, and a wallet belonging to a man who said he had been robbed in his home, according to the Quitman Police Department.

Police apprehended the 16-year-old suspect for brandishing a firearm before learning that a man had been brutally robbed in a nearby apartment.

The case began at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, when Quitman police officers responded to a dispatch call in reference to a person who had been carrying a gun around the Sunset apartment complex in Quitman.

After detectives made visual contact with the juvenile suspect, the assailant attempted to elude two officers on foot, according to the Quitman Police Department. Along with the bloody money and gun magazine  found on the suspect, officers found a wallet filled  with identifying information from an unknown person.

A short while later, officers responded to a request for assistance at a residence in the 400 block of South Walker Street.

A witness at the residence stated that a known man entered the house shouting that he had been robbed, before he collapsed on the floor.

The man’s face was swollen and there was profuse hemorrhaging that stemmed from the back of his head, according to Quitman police reports. But he began talking as EMS arrived on scene.

The man stated that two men had been waiting for him at his residence and beat him as he returned home, according to reports. He also alleged that the two men took $500 cash from him.

Officers on scene at the South Walker Street residence stated that they called back to the arresting officers and confirmed that the suspect did have $500 on his person prior to the search by detectives at the apartment complex.

The juvenile was reportedly arrested and charged with aggravated battery, armed robbery and obstruction.

More charges and arrests are pending further investigation by the Quitman Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
