VALDOSTA —
Former Lowndes High football standout and current Florida State defensive back Greg Reid was arrested Tuesday night in Lowndes County.
Reid was pulled over at 8:45 p.m. by the Georgia State Patrol at the intersection of 376 and 41 South for window tint and seat belt violations. Upon being pulled over, it was discovered Reid was driving on a suspended license and marijuana was found in the vehicle, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
Reid was arrested and later booked at the Lowndes County Jail. He was released on bond several hours later, according to authorities.
In the Georgia State Patrol report obtained by The Times, Reid was described by the trooper as “cordial and polite.” As he was the only occupant in the vehicle, a wrecker was dispatched, according to the GSP report.
A rising senior on the Florida State football team, Tuesday’s arrest will likely land Reid a multi-game suspension, if not further action by head coach
Jimbo Fisher, who released a statement Wednesday afternoon.
“I am aware that Greg has been charged and will gather all the information before I determine what course of action to take,” Fisher said in the release.
Last season, Reid was suspended a game after violating FSU team rules, along with former Lowndes Viking Telvin Smith, also a member of the Florida State football team.
In September, Reid was arrested in Tallahassee on resisting arrest without violence and perjury charges after it was believed he lied to Tallahassee Police about the whereabouts of his scooter. The charges were later dropped and Reid was not suspended for the arrest.
On the field, Reid has shined for the Seminoles, especially as a return specialist; he tallied 32 tackles and two interceptions to go along with his 11.2 yard per return average and one punt return touchdown.
In 2010, Reid started all 14 games at boundary corner and was named the Chick-fil-A Bowl Defensive MVP after racking up five tackles and forcing two fumbles. Reid exploded onto the scene in 2009 with a 100-yard kickoff return against the Miami Hurricanes. He then led all of the Division I Bowl Subdivision in punt return average
Following the 2011 season, Reid opted to return to Florida State for his senior season, despite being a projected late second-round to third-round draft pick in the National Football League.
