Dangerously Close

A brush fire burned 250-300 acres off Highway 41 on the edge of Hahira Wednesday afternoon, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission. The cause of the blaze had not been determined as of press time. Lowndes County firefighters deployed 15 pieces of equipment to battle the blaze. The firefighters were joined by Hahira, Cecil and Brooks firefighters, along with the Brooks and Cook County Forestry Units. The Georgia Forestry Commission also deployed its helicopter and airplane to assist. The Lowndes County Fire Department had to use its resources efficiently because there were three other grass fires called in at the same time.
