Strickland a recipient of presidential scholarship

VALDOSTA — Valdosta High School’s Caroline Strickland has been awarded the President’s Scholarship by the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Approximately 4,600 high achieving students from across the nation applied for the scholarship, and only 2 percent of the freshmen entering Georgia Tech this fall will be President’s Scholars.

The President’s Scholarship is Georgia Tech’s premier merit-based scholarship, which seeks students who excel in both leadership and academics.

Strickland was recently named the 2008 VHS Valedictorian and a Senior Superlative, was the president of the 2007 Lowndes Youth Leadership League, and is the recipient of an ERCO Worldwide Science and Engineering Scholarship. She attended the 2007 Governor’s Honors Program in Chemistry, and plans to pursue a degree in engineering or architecture while at Georgia Tech.

The scholarship includes an opportunity to use the Fleet International Travel Scholarship for study abroad and priority registration for housing. Recipients are also invited to a fall retreat and special orientation session specifically for President’s Scholars.
