Echols County ready for the Fourth of July


STATENVILLE — Echols County’s July 4th Celebration is a kickoff for a Sesquicentennial Celebration with events to continue through the fall and culminate on Dec. 13. July 4 activities will take place at the Echols Recreation Center in Statenville, and include the following:

2 p.m.: High School Baseball Game.

3:30 p.m.: Bobby Walker’s Co-Ed Machine Pitch Baseball Game.

5 p.m.: Chad McLeod’s Coach Pitch Boys Travel Team.

2-6:15 p.m.: Children’s Games (Water Slides, Bounce House, Obstacle Course)

4-6 p.m.: Bingo (inside building)

4:30 p.m.: Watermelon Eating Contest.

6:30 p.m.: Flag, Flag Pole Dedication and Veterans Recognition, on baseball field.

7 p.m.: Door Prize Drawing (after dedication) .

2-6:45 p.m.: Tickets available.

7:15 p.m.: Old-Timers’ Softball Game. The “Old-Timers” game will feature men who played with the recreation league in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70’s.

2-8:30 p.m.: Dunking Booth, Concessions, Shirt and Button Sales.

9 p.m.: Fireworks.

Attendees are asked to bring lawn/folding chairs for their comfort in watching the games and various activities.
