VALDOSTA — Park Avenue Bank, at the corner of Toombs Street and West Hill Avenue, was robbed Friday afternoon and the suspect remains at large.
At approximately 2:10 p.m., a slender, white male entered the bank and demanded money, according to Valdosta police. Although the offender insinuated he may have had a gun, no weapons were displayed. Bank personnel complied with the demands of the offender, who fled the scene after taking an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
Valdosta Police officers, detectives, crime scene techs and Lowndes County Sheriff deputies responded to the scene, set up perimeters and scoured the downtown area. At press time, police were interviewing witnesses and checking the bank surveillance.
Authorities are currently searching for the suspect, who was said to have short brownish hair and be in his late 30s or early 40s. The suspect was also described as approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with scruffy facial hair. At the time of the robbery, the suspect wore a yellow raincoat and had “some type of bag” in his hand, according to witnesses. Police are also investigating the possibility of an accomplice.
Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD at (229) 242-2606 or the Crime Tip Line at (229) 293-3091.
