‘Christmas on Ivory’ puts piano into Christmas

VALDOSTA — Two churches present “Christmas on Ivory” this weekend, a concert featuring three area musicians on grand piano, organ and keyboard.

“We are featuring a section of great classical pieces blended with the wonderful carols of Christmas,” notes Andy Daughtry, worship arts pastor with Perimeter Road Baptist Church. “We have programmed a great Christmas sing-along where I play the wonderful Rodgers organ at Northside (Baptist Church) like a theatre organ, a la the famed ‘Mighty Mo’ of Atlanta’s Fox Theatre.”

Performing along with Daughtry are Peggy Galloway, Northside Baptist Church pianist, and Sherry Wilson, Northside organist.

The performance includes Christmas classics such as “Joy to the World,” “Deck the Halls,” “We Three Kings,” “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” “Silent Night,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “God Rest You Merry Gentlemen,” “The Christmas Song,” the sing-along with “Let It Snow!” “Silver Bells,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “White Christmas.” Other works include “Christmas Fantasia,” “Mary, Did You Know?” “Sleepers Awake,” “An Evening in December,” “Christmas Praise,” “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” “It Is Well With My Soul,” and “Majesty.”

“We close with a majestic praise set, highlighted by the unforgettable Grieg A minor Piano Concerto blended with Jack Hayford’s classic song of praise, ‘Majesty,’” Daughtry says.
