VALDOSTA _ A Valdosta native has been nominated for his second Grammy Award in as many years.

Devin McGlamery, formerly of Valdosta, is a member of the trio Karen Peck & New River which received a Grammy nomination Wednesday night for the group’s latest CD, “Ephesians One,” in the best Southern, country, or bluegrass gospel album category.

Last year, McGlamery and Karen Peck & New River were nominated in the same Grammy category for the album “Journey of Joy,” which also received multiple gospel/Christian music Dove Award nominations earlier this year. The trio is Karen Peck, McGlamery and fellow New River member Susan Peck Johnson.

Many Valdosta residents may recall a much younger Devin singing locally and throughout South Georgia at churches, fairs, festivals, and other events. Last year, he told The Valdosta Daily Times that he would sing wherever he was invited as a youngster. His parents, Don and Sandra McGlamery, still live inValdosta.

At the age of 17, following his high school graduation, Devin McGlamery became a full-time professional singer with the harmonic Dixie Melody Boys, and toured with this group for five years.

About four years ago, he joined another already established group when he became part of Karen Peck & New River.

Devin is married to wife Karen Ham McGlamery. They have a young daughter, Karlyn, and live in North Carolina.

Given that he has pursued a singing career since childhood, McGlamery is amazed by his success.

“I never dreamed it would happen to this extent to where I would actually make a living at it,” McGlamery said in a past interview with The Valdosta Daily Times, “but through God all things are possible.”

Facing Karen Peck & New River’s “Ephesians One” in the same category are the Booth Brothers’ “Room for More,” the Gaither Vocal Band’s “Lovin’ Life,” Charlie Louvin’s “Steps to Heaven,” and Bart Millard’s “Hymned Again.”

“Ephesians One” includes 11 songs, with 10 new ones like “I Want to Thank You” and “There’s Something Going On When Mama Prays,” and one classic with “Robe and Crown.”

The 51st Grammy Award ceremony is scheduled for February.
