Group to raise funds to improve education

QUITMAN — Pot of Gold Outreach Ministry Inc. will conduct a breakfast fundraiser Saturday in an effort to improve student achievement throughout the South Georgia area.

Proceeds from the breakfast fundraiser — which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church dining hall on Screven Street in Quitman — will help Pot of Gold Outreach Ministry Inc. set up a World Vision Teacher Supply Area for students whose parents are not financially able to buy educational supplies.

Ida Austin, chief executive officer of Pot of Gold Outreach Ministry Inc. said that proceeds from the fundraiser will help the organization purchase and revitalize the building where the supplies will be stored.

Austin and her organization have worked with the Brooks County School System in years past, delivering coats last winter and supplying backpacks filled with supplies to Quitman Elementary School.

Once the supplies are set up, teachers from across the area will be able to come and get the supplies free of charge, she said.

All partners that attend the breakfast are asked to give a donation of $25.

Austin hopes to raise $2,000 from the event.

The goal is to have the supply room up and running in January.

Also at the breakfast, guests can enter to win Christmas prizes.

Austin encourages people to make reservations for the breakfast fundraiser by contacting her via email at austinpotofgold@peoplepc.com or by calling (229) 903-9735.

However, reservations are not required.
