Guild hosts auditions for ‘Peter Pan’

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Do you believe you can fly?

If so, the Gingerbread Players and Theatre Guild Valdosta may want you for its auditions for the musical “Peter Pan” Sunday and Monday.

Organizers are looking for children (6-up) and adults to fill 28 speaking roles as well as the possibility of non-speaking roles.

“Everyone auditioning needs to come prepared to sing,” according to Theatre Guild Valdosta. “We require 16 bars with no musical accompaniment. Please limit your selection to 16 bars. We will have to cut you off after one minute due to time constraints.”

Given the numbers of children who audition for regular Gingerbread Players productions, this full-scale musical partnered with the regular Theatre Guild Valdosta is expected to have even more performers auditioning for roles.

To handle expected crowds, auditions have been divided into age categories Sunday.

• 6- to 10-year-olds audition from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

• 11- to 14-year-olds audition 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday.

• 15-year-old through adult auditions start 7 p.m. Sunday.

General auditions will be held starting 6 p.m. Monday, though organizers encourage attending the Sunday auditions. Call-backs will be held Tuesday and Wednesday.

All auditions, call-backs, rehearsals and performances are scheduled for the Dosta Playhouse, 122 N. Ashley St.

Basic dance steps will be part of the audition, and a wallet-sized photo (no larger than 3-by-5) is required for casting purposes and may be attached to the audition form.

Audition forms are available, with additional information, on the Web site (theatreguildvaldosta.com).

“Peter Pan’s” performances are scheduled for three weekends: March 12-14, 19-22, 27-29. Rehearsals will run through those dates generally 6-8:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 2 p.m. until on Sundays, with longer rehearsals closer to show dates.
