VALDOSTA — For the past few months, Lindsay Bailey and Kelsey Russo have been preparing fellow students for Lowndes High School Off-Broadway’s “5, 6, 7, 8: Dance Out Loud!”
As directors of the annual student-run production, they have had to select songs, audition performers and performers’ routines, build a show, and conduct rehearsals. Given they are both juniors, Bailey and Russo have learned the difficulties of telling fellow students what to do, especially directing some older seniors.
They have also had to get to know each other. Prior to being named co-directors of the show by LHS Off-Broadway director Phyllis Childree, Bailey and Russo did not really know each other.
Since, they have spent a lot of time together preparing for this weekend’s show, which features skits, dancing choreographed primarily by Kelsey Russo, and singing. Audiences will see the talents of a wide array of Lowndes High School students as they present their portions of this annual show.
“5, 6, 7, 8” began several years ago when a small group of LHS students under Gale Thomas Eger’s direction wanted to try their hand at creating and directing a show. Childree continued the tradition when she became LHS Off-Broadway director a few years ago.

Annual Father-Daughter Dance enters 16th year
Three-week-old Emmaline Taylor lay contentedly on dad Trey Taylor’s shoulder Friday night, completely oblivious to the sights and sounds of the Father-Daughter Valentine Dance.
Now in its 16th year, the popular annual event is sponsored by Valdosta’s First Presbyterian Church and held at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center.
“We’ve been looking forward to this,” Trey Taylor said. “When we first got pregnant, (my wife Sheya and I) looked to see if she would be here in time for the Father-Daughter Dance.” -
