VALDOSTA — The Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce’s Federal Legislation Committee will present the Federal Legislative Overview Luncheon Friday, April 17, from noon-1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event will feature U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson. Cost to attend is $15, and anyone interested in federal legislation is invited to attend.
Isakson will provide attendees with information about issues and legislation taking place on Capitol Hill. Topics covered will include housing relief, credit crisis and proposed additions and changes to federal labor and employment laws.
Michael J. Eastman, executive director, Labor Law of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C., will make a special presentation of the Spirit of Enterprise Award to Isakson. The award is given by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to members of Congress who voted in support of the Chamber's position on legislation a minimum of 70 percent of the time during the previous session. The award signifies the Chamber's appreciation of those members by identifying individual senators and representatives as strong supporters of free enterprise in America. Eastman will also address legislation regarding labor issues, in particular E.F.C.A. also know as the Card Check Act.
George Israel III, president and chief executive officer of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, is a special guest speaker who will address the importance of defeating labor law issues such as E.F.C.A. that are unfavorable to business, especially for Georgia, a right to work state.
The Chamber’s Federal Legislative Committee Champions will present the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce’s Federal Legislative Agenda.
Isakson was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 and will be up for reelection in 2010.
