A little Independence Day fun

Wild Adventures will host an All-American Weekend of Independence Day fun filled with wild rides, wild shows, wild animals and so much more. In Freedom: An Underwater Escape, magical entertainer Aaron Radatz hopes he can hold his breath long enough to escape from a wooden crate at the bottom of the park’s lake. A fireworks display that promises to be the biggest and best in South Georgia and North Florida will follow. The fun kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation

Authority will present its 2009 fireworks display starting around 9:30 p.m. The display is

provided at no cost and can best be viewed

between Exit 16 and

Exit 18 from the

Valdosta Mall area to the Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart area.

Lake Park will celebrate

Independence Day with a festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring bounce houses, slides, a watermelon eating contest, food and retail vendors and more. A parade will start at 7 p.m. and run along Highway 41 South. Fireworks will follow at Tom’s Pond.

• Echols County’s Board of Commissioners will sponsor fireworks at dusk and Bingo from 8-9 p.m. at the Recreation Center on Church Street. Cards are 50 cents each and sold by the 4-H Club. There will be prizes for everyone, as well as 4-H T-shirts, glow sticks, water bottles, drinks, snow cones, chips and candy bars.

• Adel’s Reed Bingham State Park will host an Independence Day celebration all day. Activities include pontoon boat rides, animal programs, watermelon eating contests, and a fireworks display after dark.

• Located in Tifton, the Georgia Agrirama will celebrate Independence Day with a host of games, contests, demonstrations, and more. The site will open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• The Nashville Volunteer Fire Department will host a festival in Memorial Park off Adel Highway. The celebration of Independence Day event will kick off at 1 p.m. and feature vendors, a dunking booth, an old car show and so much more. A water park, sponsored by area businesses, will be set up. Fireworks, provided by the City of Nashville, will begin at 9:30 p.m.
