One man is dead and a second injured after a shooting incident in the early morning hours Sunday.
Jermaine Antonio Mitchell was shot to death and was dead at the scene, said Valdosta Police Detective Cmdr. Eugene Bell.
Desmond Jones was also shot and taken to an area hospital for treatment, the commander said. Both men are believed to be in their 20s, Bell said.
Police were still piecing together what happened throughout Sunday. Bell said the incident happened at a Melody Lane apartment complex.
Valdosta police were dispatched to the scene in the early morning hours Sunday. One man was dead, another injured. Bell arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.
No arrests had been made by noon Sunday. Police are investigating several leads, seeking possible suspects.
Valdosta police responded to several reports of unrelated gunshots in the city Saturday night and Sunday morning as part of July 4 celebrations.
