VALDOSTA — Two fast-food restaurants were reportedly robbed Sunday night.
A gun was used in the robbery of the Bemiss Road Krystal’s, with shots fired as a witness pursued the robbers; police have a suspect in this case. A robber used intimidating threats to rob the WalMart Subway on Norman Drive, said Valdosta Police Lt. Bobbi McGraw.
Krystal’s robbed at gunpoint
At about 11 p.m. Sunday, two African-American men with their faces partially concealed entered Krystal’s, 2117 Bemiss Road, McGraw said.
They demanded money. One man showed employees a handgun.
“One male was described as being tall with dark skin and the other male was described as average height with lighter skin,” McGraw said. “The males had their faces concealed.”
Taking the money, they fled the business on foot. One unidentified witness followed the robbers out of the fast-food restaurant. This witness drove after the robbers.
Gun shots were fired near the pursuing vehicle and the robbers escaped. They ran east then south. The pursuing witness was not injured by the gunshots.
An unspecified time later, a person called 911 regarding a suspicious person in the backyard of a 1900 block North Lee Street residence. Police took the individual into custody in connection with the Krystal’s robbery.
“Charges are pending against the male for armed robbery,” McGraw said. “The name of the offender is being withheld at this time due to efforts to help identify the other suspect.”
Subway robbed by intimidation
Earlier Sunday evening, at 8:44 p.m., a white male entered the Subway restaurant inside the Norman Drive WalMart. He ordered a sandwich. Instead of paying at the cash register, he demanded money from the employee.
“The offender did not display a weapon, but threatened the clerk’s well being if she did not comply with his demands,” McGraw said.
He took the money and left the restaurant.
Valdosta police responded to the call and have released a description of the robber. He is described as a white male, average height and build, clean shaven, light-brown hair, in his early 30s.
“Security camera video from WalMart is being studied by detectives and it appears that the offender left the parking lot of WalMart after entering a red, long wheel base Chevrolet pickup truck with a silver tool box,” McGraw said.
