HAHIRA —
The City of Hahira terminated its website manager after a number of city council minutes went missing from the database, according to Hahira City Manager Jonathan Sumner at Monday night’s city council work session.
“It was not a successful partnership,” said Sumner.
The website has been managed by Hahira Web Creations, operated by former Hahira Mayor John Adams, who is also the husband of district four council member, Rose Adams.
“The minutes disappeared from the website and it was a coding error,” said Sumner.
According to Sumner, there was an urgency to obtain the missing minutes and the webmaster was unable to solve the problem in the time necessary.
“We needed it done and he just wasn’t able to restore them,” said Sumner.
Sumner recommended to the council that an RFP (Request For Proposal) be placed to seek out a new website manager, preferably someone who is local and accessible.
In the meanwhile, Rose Adams will be keeping up with the website until a permanent employee can be hired.
“I talked with the city manager ... and after this occurred I told him with his permission that I would get the updates back on and also find all the minutes that were missing, I spent probably 40 hours or so and most everything now is updated,” said Rose Adams.
Though other things went missing, such as a picture of district two council member, Allen Cain, Sumner stated that the missing minutes were the priority.
“That was really the concern ... of minutes specifically. We had numerous requests for minutes over the past 30-50 days,” said Sumner.
Also up for discussion was the traffic enforcement unit that Chief Terry Davis of the Hahira Police Department made a request for at the Jan. 3, 2012, work session and the regular session meeting on Jan. 5, 2012, where the council voted to postpone the vote for one month. Council members Cain and Terry Benjamin of district one voted not to postpone the vote while Rose and Ralph Clendenin of district three voted for postponement so that they could speak with their constituents. Hahira Mayor, Wayne Bullard, broke the tie and went with Clendenin and Rose.
“The month was granted,” said Benjamin. “It’s been talked about for a number of years and after the month I feel like it should go back on for consideration.”
The requested Traffic Enforcement Unit, if approved by council vote, would patrol two miles of Interstate 75. The item is on the agenda for discussion for Thursday night’s regular session council meeting.
The following items were also discussed:
•The city of Hahira is looking into renovating the city hall.
• The Stanfill building. Certain court-ordered repairs must be made before the allotted court date.
•The city has had a map drawn up of a tentative redistricting to make Hahira more balanced.
•Downtown activities update.
•Sprayfield contract.
•Sumner requested permission to attend the Georgia City County
Managers Association (GCCMA) Conference.
The Hahira City Council will meet for its regular session meeting on Thursday, Feb.2 at 7:30 p.m. At this meeting, the Hahira Ethics Committee will be delivering their report concerning the ethics complaint filed against Bullard.
