LAKELAND —
Hundreds of Lakeland residents headed out to MLK Park Saturday, as the Second to None Bike Club hosted their 9th annual bike festival and invested in Lanier County youth.
There was free food and school supplies for all who came out to the park’s neatly trimmed knoll and milled around its pavilion.
“We just giving back to the community,” said club President William Carter. “The bike rides and raffles attract the kids, who their need parents to bring them out. So it gets the whole community involved, and it’s good, clean fun.”
Over 30 sleek motorcycles were showcased, as on-lookers marveled and bikers talked shop. Once the event started to wind down, Carter said the club would hold its annual youth ride. With just a parent-endorsed waiver from one of the bike club’s booths, Carter said youth would get a free motorcycle ride around the park.
There was also a healthy inventory of bicycles which were raffled off to youth whose parents covered the $2 buy in.
Teens could enter a raffle for laptop computers, and adults could enter a drawing for a hand-crafted chest that was constructed by one of the bike club’s members, according to Betty Humphrey, secretary for the club’s sister branch in Hilliard, Fla.
Humphrey said proceeds from each event’s raffles enable the bike club to host the next year’s community bike fest. She said the Second to None club also does Christmas toy runs and helps out with other community events, like Relay for Life.
She and Carter both stated that the club is looking for more sponsors to help take the event even further and they invite those interested to contact the club.
