TIFTON — The body of a Valdosta man believed to have been killed by a train was found Tuesday morning off U.S. Highway 41 in northern Tift County.

According to Capt. Mike Walker of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office, a passerby reported that there was an abandoned car on the shoulder of the highway in the area between Red Oak and Cromer roads’ intersection with the highway. The car’s engine was not running, but the lights were on and had begun to dim. When the deputy arrived, he walked the area and found the body of Joshua Sollomen, 27, in the area of the railroad tracks.

Walker said no foul play is suspected and investigators don’t know why Sollomen was on the railroad tracks.

It is possible that more than one train hit Sollomen, but no railway employee called authorities to report that they had hit someone. The people on the train may not have known, Walker said.

Tift County Coroner Steve Wood said that Sollomen’s body would not be autopsied as there is no suspicion of foul play.
