Early voting starts today for primary and runoff

VALDOSTA — It’s been nine days since the 2010 General Election and Special Election and already it’s time for voters to head back to the polls.

The seven-day, early-voting period for the runoff is scheduled to kick off today, with voters casting ballots from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Lowndes County Board of Elections, 2808 N. Oak St.

Early voting will continue at the Lowndes County Board of Elections from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, as well as from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 2-6.

All those wishing to cast their early ballots on the campus of Valdosta State University will be able to do so from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 2-6 in the University Center, 1401 N. Patterson St.  

All precincts will be open on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Any United States citizen who is at least 18 years of age and a legal resident of the state of Georgia not serving a sentence for a felony involving moral turpitude, who registered to vote by June 5, and who has not been judged mentally incompetent by the court is eligible to cast a ballot. However, those voters who cast ballots in the General Primary and Special Election will have to make their selections from the same party ticket in the runoff. All those who did not vote on July 20 will be able to choose either ballot.
