VALDOSTA —
A roadside dispute ended with two pedestrians being struck by a car around midnight Wednesday night, according to Valdosta police, while a bicyclist was hit by a truck earlier on the same day.
In the late night incident, a woman reportedly ran out onto a stretch of road in the 1000 block of West Hill Avenue around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, after being engaged in a heated argument with another woman, said police.
Both women were struck by a 2005 Lexus 360i that was traveling at a speed of 45 miles per hour, according to the accident report. In the report, the first pedestrian stated that she was attempting to get away from the other woman.
The driver stated that the two women appeared to be standing in the eastbound lane of West Hill Avenue. The driver directed the car towards the turn lane in the center of the road to give the women space along the side of the road, but the center lane is exactly where the first pedestrian headed and the second woman followed suit, according to the VPD.
Both women were transported to South Georgia Medical Center, but there has been no report on their condition.
Raven Samone Washington, 20, and Jamie Eloise Coxfield, 24, both received a citation of “Pedestrian must not dart out into traffic,” reports stated.
Earlier that day, around 9:30 a.m., a bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Sustella Avenue and Baytree Road, reports stated.
The truck’s driver was preparing to make a right turn onto Sustella Avenue after the light turned green, stated the driver in the VPD report. Before the turn could be completed, the driver told police he heard a loud noise and saw a bike laying in the road.
The bicyclist, a student at Valdosta State University, told police that he was wearing headphones at the time of the incident. He was transported to South Georgia Medical Center for evaluation, according to Thressea Boyd, the assistant to the university’s president for communications.
The bicyclist, 25-year-old Booker Reid III, received a citation of failure to maintain lane, according to the VPD.
