VALDOSTA — The Georgia DOT, with the assistance of local law enforcement, will be pacing traffic on I-75 in Lowndes County between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. today, July 23, 2010. Law enforcement will be slowing traffic down by pacing with their emergency blue lights to allow utility cables to be pulled across I-75 southbound between mile markers 32 and 24 and the temporary closure of the southbound Exit 29/Hahira onramp to I-75. Motorists should expect temporary delays.

This is a WORK ZONE and extreme caution is necessary. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this work zone.

 Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about this or any other construction project on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather. I-75 northbound lane closures

Contractors for the Georgia DOT have scheduled a double left lane closure on I-75 North between mile marker 5 and mile marker 10. Contractor crews will be resurfacing the northbound I-75 lanes beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 22 until 7 a.m., Friday, July 23 (weather permitting).

This is a work zone and extreme caution is necessary. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this construction work zone. Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.



Traffic shifting to newly constructed bridge on S.R. 7/ U.S. 41

The Georgia DOT has scheduled a traffic shift on S.R. 7/U.S. 41 at Giddens Mill Creek in Adel at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Contractor crews will be shifting traffic to the newly constructed permanent bridge.

This is a work zone and extreme caution is necessary. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this construction work zone. Message signs, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.

I-75 construction updates

Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation will perform major reconstruction of Interstate 75 at different locations between Exit 37/Adel-Old Quitman Road and the Crisp/Dooly County line.

 To ensure motorists and contractor safety, this work will warrant lane closures and traffic shifts along this section of I-75, which could cause short delays.

However, there are no lane closures scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Georgia DOT reports the following construction activities are tentatively planned through July 29:

COOK/TIFT: The I-75/Exit 41 northbound on-ramp has been temporarily closed to traffic. A signed detour route is marked and in place. This ramp closure is being utilized to allow the replacement of the railroad overpass bridge on I-75 north. I-75 northbound traffic has been shifted between mile marker 39 and mile marker 60 to allow for new construction. The rest area located on 1-75 North near mile marker 47 has been temporarily closed. This project requires much of the project shoulders to be temporarily closed with barrier walls. Motorists may encounter night time lane closures on I-75 north and southbound between mile marker 53 and mile marker 59. Emergency pull offs will be provided at various locations throughout the project.

CRISP: I-75 northbound traffic has recently been shifted east between mile marker 98 and the Crisp/Dooly County line to its permanent configuration.

This project requires much of the project median and inside lanes to be temporarily closed with barrier walls. Construction activities could include nighttime lane closures from Exit 99/SR 300 to the Dooly County line. Emergency pull offs are provided at various locations throughout the project.

The Georgia DOT notes that the above construction schedules are proposed activities planned by the contractors and may change due to weather conditions or other factors.

As in any work zone, motorists are reminded to pay special attention to traffic control devices, signs and posted speed limits to ensure safe passage through the work zone.
