LHS Mock Trial Team wins region title
VALDOSTA — Lowndes High School’s Mock Trial team traveled to Brunswick Saturday and returned to Valdosta with its first region title.
Team members defeated Valwood School in the first round of the tournament, trying the case of State of Georgia vs Claire Stafford. In the second round of competition, LHS’s prosecution defeated Camden County High School’s defense, while LHS’s defense beat Ware Magnet School’s prosecution.
LHS advanced to the championship round against Ware Magnet and defeated them soundly for their first region title. The Brunswick region consists of teams from Berrien High, Brunswick High, Camden County High, Glynn Academy, Valwood School, Ware County High and Ware Magnet.
Lowndes High was led in the competition by four-year senior David Keener, second-year junior Brianna Turner and first-year sophomore Tumise Asebiomo. The team will travel to Lawrenceville March 12-14 to compete against 11 other region champions for the state title and the right to be Georgia’s representative in Philadelphia for the national championships May 5-9.
In the competition phase, students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses. Teams are evaluated on their ability to make a logical, cohesive and persuasive presentation on the legal merits of the case.
Winning individual awards and recognition for perfect scores at the region competition were David Keener, Best Attorney, four perfect scores; Tumise Asebiomo, Best Witness as Tere Nicke Tippy, two perfect scores; Roy Clayton, Best Witness as Eddie McMann; Brianna Turner, Best Witness as Vivian Theodore; Gabe Gonzalez, Best Attorney; and the entire defense team, two perfect scores.
Lowndes High’s team members are David Keener, Gabe Gonzalez, Kaitlyn McNeil, Thomas Brown, Jillian Leach, Jenny Lee, David Roe, Jamie Mauldin, Taylor Weldon, Meagan Weaver, Chris Lindner, Tunise Asebiomo, Alexandra Wang, Bryan Holley, Tieteanna Harris, Stephanie Oliff, Brittany Ward, Adrian Graham, David Wildes, Roy Clayton, Brianna Turner, Latifah Choice, Chris Cagle, Sarah Weldon, and Olivia Segundo. Coaches are Michael White, Michelle White, Sheila Knight, Rae Hubbard, Kristin Webb, Converse Bright, Gary Moser, H.B. Edwards, and Beth Danforth.

Sharper Fest 2010 scheduled for this weekend
