VALDOSTA —
A two- day manhunt for a burglary suspect ended late Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 5:50 p.m., Valdosta police captured Shermaine Nathan Manning in a wooded area out by the old Vallotton Dairy Farm, said Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine. This is the same area of a concentrated manhunt Tuesday.
Manning was arrested and charged with burglary, the sheriff said. He was transported to the Lowndes County Jail.
Full charges for both Manning and a second suspect, Rashawn Matthew Sirmans, arrested Tuesday morning, will be reported after the investigation has concluded, he said.
Tuesday’s daylong manhunt led to the lock down of at least two area elementary schools, officers and police dogs searching fields and neighborhoods along Bemiss Road north of Perimeter Road, and a helicopter searching overhead.
Sirmans was caught at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, in the area of Heatherwoods Drive, after a witness called to report a burglary in progress.
Several law-enforcement agencies lined the roads and patrolled the local areas while searching for Manning. Prine thanked all those involved in the capturing of these two suspects.
