VALDOSTA —
More than 150 classic and antique cars and trucks, imports, low riders, rat rods, vintage race cars, antique tractors, World War II vehicles and motorcycles are expected to cruise into Valdosta, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 26, Valdosta mall.
The Fourth Annual Super Cruise-In will also feature a Barney Fife look-a-like cruising the area in his Mayberry police cruiser along with look-a-like Dale Earnhart Sr. There is no charge to display a vehicle and no charge for spectators.
Super Teen Model of the Year “Victoria” will make a special appearance during the Cruise-In. Come meet Victoria and have your picture made with her.
South Georgia Classic Car Club has teamed up with the Georgia Street Rod Association to bring Valdosta an outstanding show this year, said Logan Birdsong, a past car club president.
SGCCC, a Valdosta-based club, was formed in 1984 and has been in continuous operation since then with Joey Weldon serving as the current president. SGCCC is active throughout the year with various charity organizations such as the Georgia Sheriffs Boys and Girl Ranch, Best Buddies Organization and Honor Flight to name a few.
Georgia Street Rod Association is led by President Buddy Hollomon of Americus. The GSRA was formed in 1977 and has more than 1,000 members statewide. Its objectives include monitoring automobile legislation and education as well as serving as a coordinating group for automobile enthusiasts in Georgia.
Roger Croft, president of the Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame, has been instrumental in getting several of the early vintage racing cars and drivers for the Super Cruise-In. These are the cars and drivers that became legends in the early days of stock-car racing on tracks like Thunderbowl, I-75 Speedway, Patton Speedway, Lake City and many others.
In addition to these cars, Denny Fenstermaker will have his 1966 Dragster, built by Roger Gates, on display. This dragster was one of the first to place the engine in front of the driver.
Anyone with a vehicle is encouraged to bring it for display. Valdosta Mall merchants are preparing special “goodie bags” for all women who bring a vehicle or come with a vehicle. Door prizes will be awarded to participants throughout the day. There will be a 50/50 drawing for spectators and participants.
The Super Cruise-In will be located on the Baytree Road side of the mall next to Buffalo Wild Wings. More information: Contact Logan Birdsong, (229) 251-8558; or visit www.sgccc.org.
