VALDOSTA — Two more suspects have been arrested in the July 5 murder of 24-year-old Antonio Jermaine Mitchell, bringing the count to six arrests, so far.
Valdosta police charged Lowndes County residents Lorenzo Bernard Countee Jr., 20, and Michael Mitchell, 18, with felony murder and one count of aggravated assault, Valdosta Police Capt. Bobbi McGraw said.
Countee is being held at the Lowndes County Jail. Mitchell was arrested in Carrollton and is being held at a Carrollton detention facility awaiting transfer back to Lowndes County.
The Valdosta Police Department expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office in locating Mitchell.
“Valdosta Police Department personnel have worked extremely hard on this complex case and continue to follow all leads generated in the case,” said McGraw. “Detectives are still investigating the possibility of other involved persons.”
At this time, six people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Antonio Jermaine Mitchell and aggravated assault of Desmond Jones. Other suspects include Lewis Mitchell Jr., 19, Cheryl Core, 19, Aianza Wheeler, 18, and Raynard Reid, 17, all of whom are charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, according to Valdosta police. Two of the suspects were arrested last month; Wheeler and Reid were charged earlier this week.
The shooting occurred Sunday, July 5, at Stone Creek Apartments, located at 1197 Melody Lane.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., Valdosta police were dispatched to the apartment complex to
find Mitchell dead inside a vehicle in the complex parking lot, along with an injured man, Desmond Jones, near one of the apartment buildings. Both men suffered multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies, according to Valdosta police.
Jones was given first aid and transported to an area hospital. He has since been treated and released.
