VALDOSTA — Cody Corbett exhibited the Grand Champion steer and Jamie Childers exhibited the Supreme Champion heifer at the 69th Annual Valdosta Area Beef Show and Sale.
The show was held at the Lowndes County Civic Center on Monday. Eighteen students from Echols, Brooks, and Lowndes counties exhibited their cattle in this event. These elementary, middle, and high school students are members of either local 4H or FFA organizations.
The show began at 6 p.m. with the judging of the heifers, followed by showmanship, and last by the steer judging. Adam Verner from Madison was the judge for the entire event.
Heifer class winners include Kolten Thatcher, Commercial Class 1; Cody Corbett, Commercial Class 2; Lane Peavy, Commercial Class 3.
Cody Corbett exhibited the Grand Champion Commercial heifer. The Reserve Champion Commercial heifer was exhibited by Clay Corbett.
Registered heifer winners include Jamie Childers, Registered Class 1; Brittany Rigg, Registered Class 2; and Jamie Childers, Registered Class 3.
Cody Corbett exhibited the Reserve Supreme Champion heifer. The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Area Raised heifers were exhibited by Jamie Childers.
The showmanship divisions followed the heifer divisions. The Youth Showmanship Champion was Landon Herring. The Junior Showmanship Champion was Cody Corbett. The Senior Showmanship Champion was Jamie Childers. The First Year Showmanship Champion was Ben Herring.
The last divisions of the show were the steer divisions.
The Steer Class 1 winner was Lane Peavy. The Steer Class 2 winner was Taylor Griffin. The Steer Class 3 winner was Ben Herring. The Steer Class 4 winner was Cody Corbett. The Steer Class 5 winner was Gage Browning. The Reserve Champion steer was exhibited by Jaime Childers. The Area Raised Grand Champion was shown by Lane Peavy. The Area Raised Reserve Champion was shown by Jamie Childers.
Other students participating in the show event include Clint Clements, Colby Ellis, Conner Ellis, Ashley Exum, Blake Exum, Sam Herring, Dustin Johnson, and Trevor Ross.
At show time these students had been working with their cattle for almost a year.
The Valdosta Area Beef Show and Sale was sponsored by PCA, Lowndes County Board of Commissioners, ADM Processing, Lowndes County Farm Bureau, Turner County Stockyards, Dr. Brian Griner, Dupont, The Langdale Company, Boot Hill, The Scruggs Company, and many other sponsors.
The results of the sale portion of the event, which culminated on Tuesday, will be released at a later date.
