More arrests in business burglary

VALDOSTA — Following a police dog cornering one suspect earlier this week, two more men have been arrested in what authorities believe may be an area business burglary ring, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Friday.

Authorities believe the thwarted early Thursday morning burglary may be linked to a series of business burglaries being investigated by the Valdosta Police Department, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A joint investigation between the sheriff’s office and police department led to the arrest of two additional suspects.

Dante Robert Drew, 22, of Columbia, S.C., and Michael Brock, 21, of Rock Hill, S.C., are each charged with one count second-degree burglary, according to the sheriff’s office.

Their arrests followed Thursday morning’s alarm sounding at Robinson Recycling at 1020 Howell Road, according to reports. Upon arrival, deputies noticed a vehicle leaving the area.

Deputies chased the fleeing car. The car crashed, hitting a building at the intersection of Griffin and Payne avenues.

The car’s four occupants exited the car and ran away. One of the running men bumped into the mirror of a deputy’s vehicle. Undeterred, the man kept running. Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies used a K-9 unit to track the fleeing men. The dog located and cornered one suspect a short distance away.

The suspect is Taylor Devont Bell, 19, of Valdosta. He is charged with felony burglary, felony interference with government property and misdemeanor criminal trespass, according to the sheriff’s office.

Following the arrest of Bell, Drew and Brock, deputies were seeking a fourth individual Friday for questioning. All three arrested suspects were being held in the Lowndes County Jail.

In a statement, Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine said this investigation is on-going, more charges are pending, and an additional arrest is expected.
