VALDOSTA —
A woman who hanged herself with a bed sheet in the Lowndes County Jail on her last day of incarceration, Tuesday, Oct. 2, passed away Friday evening at South Georgia Medical Center.
Jessica Lee Shaver, 31, leaves behind two daughters, her parents and a sister. Funeral services for Shaver will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.
Shaver was reportedly incarcerated due to a probation violation and she had been held in a cell by herself because of problems with other inmates.
In a previous report from the Times, Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine stated that he knew of no motive for the hanging.
Shaver had received medical attention on the morning of Oct. 2., according to Prine. But when a nurse returned to Shaver’s cell with ice at around 9:47 a.m., Shaver was found suspended by bed sheets.
The GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) has been handling the investigation. The GBI typically investigates jail suicides that result in deaths, but officials from the organization could not be reached to confirm whether they are still actively investigating Shaver’s death.
