VALDOSTA —
Community Builders of Valdosta is hosting a Rebuilding Our Communities block party Saturday, Aug. 28, at Vallotton Park.
The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will include guest speakers and pastors from the area, entertainment by church groups, and free food.
The purpose of this event to encourage people to join together and address the problems plaguing the communities.
Recently, East Brookwood Place and surrounding neighborhoods experienced a high volume of burglaries and thefts from vehicles.
Valdosta City Councilman James Wright, District 1, and committee members met with residents to discuss the issues and tried to find some sort of resolution.
Johanna Felton, committee point of contact, said this event will be a good opportunity to show the youth in the community that they don’t have to be involved in criminal activity.
“We need to teach them to think outside the box,” she said. “We need to know each other and our neighbors and get the guys off the corners.”
Pastor Anthony Baker of True Life Fellowship Ministries will be the master of ceremony for the event. He extended an invitation to all the pastors in the community.
This block party is not limited to any particular neighborhood. All are encouraged to attend.
