VALDOSTA —
Jacob McCook was always helping someone, according to his family.
A rising Lowndes High School senior, he helped other teammates playing Viking football. He helped his mother clean house June 21. He spent part of Friday, June 22, helping others.
He was helping a friend move furniture on Saturday, June 23, when unsecured items shifted, knocking McCook out of the vehicle, along Cypress Lake Trail, about a mile west of Loch Laurel Road.
His injuries took him to South Georgia Medical Center where he was transported to Tallahassee Medical Center, Tallahassee, Fla.
Even in his passing earlier this week, the 17-year-old has helped several people. A registered organ donor, six to eight of his organs have gone to people in need of transplants, improving their lives in some cases. Saving their lives in other cases, say his parents, Rick and Lynn George. Though gone from his family, Jake’s generosity and giving spirit will ensure that others will live and remain active in their families for generations to come, said his mother, Lynn George.
The Georges also wanted people to know that they did not take McCook off life-support. On Thursday, Jake succumbed to his injuries and passed away, his mother said.
Funeral arrangements were still being prepared Friday. A fund has been established in the name of Jacob McCook and the Georges at First Federal Savings and Loan to help the family defray medical expenses.
