VALDOSTA —
A heavy winter storm is expected to blanket sections of the country in heavy snow and the same storm is projected to sweep through the southeast, bringing rains, winds, plummeting temperatures and the possibility of severe storms, including tornadoes.
The Weather Channel is predicting the greatest potential for severe weather today will be from Pensacola, Fla. to Savannah, as far north as Atlanta, and as far south as Lake City, Fla.
Valdosta is right in the center of the projected threat area.
Forecasters for the Weather Channel predict that strong storms will hit Texas and Louisiana early today and then spread east along the Gulf Coast.
Possibilities of rain, hail, winds of 60 to 80 mph and large hail are all threats in the region.
On Wednesday, there is still a chance of severe weather along with a cold front that is expected to drop night time temperatures significantly through the weekend. Lows tonight are expected to be around 60 degrees, but Wednesday night, they are forecast to be in the low 30’s, with temperatures in the 50s through the weekend.
Officials with the Georgia State Patrol ask drivers to be extra cautious while traveling this week as by Christmas Eve, there had already been 8 deaths on Georgia’s highways.
