HAMILTON COUNTY, Fla. —
A power crew discovered the lifeless body of a white female on a dirt road just south of the Georgia/Florida border early Monday morning, according to Florida authorities, prompting the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office to initiate a joint probe into the woman's identity and death with investigators from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
A power crew from Suwannee Valley Electric Company turned onto the dirt road and the woman's body was lying near the edge of the roadway, about 100 feet from the intersection of Northwest 44 Street and Florida Highway 6, according to Sheriff J. Harrell Reid of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
Late Monday evening, Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine and Sheriff Reid issued a joint release, stating that the deceased woman is 61 year old Pamela Provenzano of Lowndes County. The release also states that police are investigating her death as a murder and have identified a person of interest, 79-year old Daniel Lee Ovaert, a white male, also of
Lowndes County. Ovaert was last known to be driving a 1995 to 1997 Lincoln Town Car with an unknown Georgia license plate and a dent on the right rear bumper, according to the sheriffs. Anyone observing this vehicle or Ovaert should notify their local law enforcement agency immediately.
Provenzano's body was transported Monday to the medical examiner's office in Jacksonville, Fla. to confirm her identification, stated Reid, who thanked Sheriff Prine and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for their support.
Sheriff Prine stated that it is believed that the woman is from Hahira, and the investigation is continuing.
