VALDOSTA —
Early voting for Georgia’s March 6 presidential primary has begun and will run until Friday, March 2.
Democrats will only have one option: Current President Barack Obama. Republicans will have a plethora of choices. Every GOP candidate except Herman Cain will be on the ballot.
“Everyone is on there; they have not formally withdrawn,” said Lowndes County Board of Elections Supervisor of Elections Deb Cox.
For the first time ever in the state of Georgia, the Lowndes County Board of Elections will allow early voting on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early voting this week will be allowed from 8 - 5 p.m. and during the last week of early voting, hours will be expanded to 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
According to Cox, wait times are minimal but she encourages citizens to vote early since crowds increase the closer it is to the actual election date.
Voters participating in the early voting period will be required to show one of the following six forms of photo ID:
• A Georgia driver’s license, even if expired.
• Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by the county registrar or Georgia Department of Driver Services.
• Valid U.S. passport.
• Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state.
• Valid U.S. military photo ID.
• Valid tribal photo ID.
Free rides are available to and from the Board of Elections by the local Republican and Democratic parties. Georgia primaries require voters to register 30 days in advance.
